Matthew Compton

     Welcome! I am an archaeologist and zooarchaeologist specialized in the prehistoric and historic southeastern United States. I recently graduated (May 2009) from the ecological and environmental anthropology doctoral program in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Georgia . I was also formerly affiliated with the Georgia Museum of Natural History, Zooarchaeology Laboratory where my disseration research was conducted. I am currently employed as an independent archaeofaunal analysis consultant. My research and teaching interests include archaeology of the southeastern United States, zooarchaeology, subsistence/economic studies, environmental archaeology, historical ecology, public archaeology, and museum studies.
